Self-illuminating

This type of fly is not considered decent by all but somewhat something of a cheat.
Personally I don’t think there is much difference between tying in a self-illuminating material and tying in flash, UV reflective body dubbing and God knows everything used today.

Comment

A very simple fly that fishes well. Tie in UNI-Glo like ordinary flat tinsel. Tie in the hackle and cut the top slightly. Tie in a rather thin bundle of fox hair pointing forward and spread the hair over a bit more than a third of the tube. Fold backwards and spread the hair so that a nice, wide delta wing is formed. Attach the cone and your fly is complete.

The UNI-Glo tinsel is charged with a lamp before you start fishing the fly.

Examples of charged flies by night-light

Red glowing nighttime fly, as you would imagine that the trout sees it from the side.

Yellow glowing nighttime fly, as you would imagine that the trout sees it from below.
