Fishing
for grayling |
|
The stream Tjulån runs from the
lake Tjulträsk to the lake Gautsträsk and offers a
very fine fishing for grayling.
By the stream some Canadian char
is also caught since it’s found in Tjulträsk and
often does tours of the water system.
Some Ammarnäs trout is usually also caught by Tjulån
why you should always be prepared for a surprise. |

Introduction
The fishing section of Tjulån
is about four km and offers high quality
fishing for grayling by a water rich in
variations. There are plenty of cavities, rapids
and slow waters.
The landscape varies from
lovely birch forest of mountain character by
lake Tjulträsk to more of a forest of the
lowlands down towards Ammarnäs.
There is a very fine fireplace up at lake
Tjulträsk which works well as a base camp when
fishing the upper parts of the stream. Here you
also find the suspension bridge which makes it
particularly easy to cross to the other side of
the stream.
To reach the middle parts of
the stream you park your car by the road barrier
at Karsbäcken.
If you park at the trail
Kungsleden’s car park you can hike along the
whole southern part of the stream. On this side
of the stream you find several windbreaks and
fireplaces. |

Guiding
Tjulån is very varied and you
can use a number of techniques to reach the
fish. With a guide your chances of succeeding by
this water increase considerably since you do
not have to look for the right spots and you may
instead spend time fishing where the fish are. |
|
Season
The season stretches from the end of July
until the end of September.
Standard flies for grayling in stream waters like Klinkhåmer
Special, Elk Hair Caddis and Special Pupa work very well in
this area. Small Jassids or similar flies must be in your
fly box when fishing for grayling at Tjulån.
Don’t forget to add some big flies to the box if you should
sight a Canadian char or an Ammarnäs trout by the stream. |

Fishing licenses
You fish with the license for Ammarnäs FCA
up to the suspension bridge from where you need the State’s
mountain fishing license for the last section up to lake
Tjulträsk. The State’s section is short but sometimes
fishing there is very good why it could be wise to buy this
license as well when fishing the upper part of Tjulån.
